Three traditional decorations:  sponge, incised painting and wheel turned banding.

Early American potters found a practical beauty in the golden brown hues of the limited pigments they were able to extract from local vegetation.  The pigments were became unstable during the firing in their primitive kilns and often became dull -- muddy.

Being faithful to their hope, we brightened them by lifting the brown with some gold and orange to makeh them glow.

Use the Sponge charger at table-- or as a support for other plates on a buffet--or as the base for a casual lap dinner. Use it to serve cheeses, desserts, fruits at place or pile it high for the whole table.

Use the incised painted plate with its shallow rim for salads and pastas.

Use the subtly decorated wheel turned banded plate as your go-to for lunch and dinner.
